Drawing At The Club.

A lesson in how lame TJ is. So last night I went out to a club with Matt and Dave. We were in the club and the lights were low the thunderous bass beat down on me as I watched the people bouncing around on the dance floor. So I just stood there and watched , and I realized that I needed to get some fresh air. We had got into the club for free when we first showed up, and I did not realize that one needed a stamp to get back in. Then I realized that I would have to pay the cover charge to get back in. I decided that I didn't ever really want to be in the club, and i set out to find a pen and something to draw on. I happen to find a late night coffee shop (at this time it was about midnight). I was able to talk the girl making the coffee to let me borrow a ball point pen after having to buy a cup of coffee (cafe mocha). Then I grabed a napkin and went back to the club. The place next door to the club the boys were in was pretty empty, and they had tables outside! So I set up shop at a table for 1, and started to draw this picture. I was out there for about an hour and a half before the boys came out. Enjoy.

The Great and the Not So Great.

These are a couple of caricatures that I did. The top one is indie music legend Eric Bachmann, and if you don't believe Mr. Bachmann is one of the best singer /songwriters then please checkout his bands Crooked Fingers, Archers of Loaf, Berry Black, and Eric Bachmann (To the Races). The second picture did not really turn out that great. It doesn't really look like the person I was drawing. If you can guess who it is you could be a winner!

Sketch

I did this piece for my father in law Richard H. He wanted something that reminded him of M.C. Escher, but in my own style. So after a long time thinking it over (because lets face it M.C. Escher is one of the greatest artists I have ever seen) this is what i came up with. I hope you like it. I did the hair layering in photoshop, but the rest is with pencil.

Only In My Dreams

This is what happened to me once in a dream. I was at a party and I really had to sneeze. So I covered my face and ran to the bath room. I was knocking people to the ground. When I finally made it to the bath room gummy bears started to come out of my nose.
This is also one of my first self portraits.

Dave & The Process

Here is the process I use when painting my digital portraits.
First I lay down some color with a hard brush. This is just to map out the skin color before I put in the shadows and highlights. Next I smudge those colors together (I'm a sucker for the smudge tool). Also add a solid color for the background.
Next I add in the darker colors with a softer brush, and add just a little bit of the highlights.
Of course then I use the smudge tool again, and add in the lightest highlights.

Portrait

This is my first portrait digital painting and I'm really proud of it. I started it a while ago, but put it off due to my lack of knowledge of colory theory and perportion. Over months of practice and training I was finally able to finish it.

The Wolf with no Teeth

Invisible Monsters

This is a project I did for school. We had a book report, and then had to re-do the cover. My book was "Invisible Monsters" by Chuck Palahniuk. It really is a great book, and if you have a chance read it!

Take Two

It's not often that one gets two chances in "The Push Up Contest", but do to the embarrassing display of the first try Eric gets another chance. I apologize for the "artistic" camera angle, but in the end listen to why Eric can't do more than 5 push up's.

Well here it is for anyone who wants to see it. When one thinks of L.A. they think of hot parties with big stars, fancy food, and designer clothing. Well I'm here to tell you this is what really happens. Push up contests are becoming more and more in with the it crowd. Here is take one fo the man that was suppose to beat our tourney high (47).

Guess Who?

Ok so here is a test for anyone who cares to be challenged today? So I have 3 caricature drawings here. If anyone can guess who they are will get a big prize. Now I don't know what the prizes will be, but I am very certain that no one will be able to get all three right. they range from easy to medium to hard. Ok so good luck, and godspeed.

"The Field"

This is the field that I was in when I first saw "Just the 10 of Us". My father and I were camping and we had a battery powered T.V. (it was Friday, and when I was a kid my family lived for TGIF). I remember it was the episode entitled "Smoke 'Em if you Got 'Em". Graham finds a cigarette in the basement, and you might know he immediately thinks it was Wendy (so did I), but never would he have know that it was Sherrie :0 Those were the days.

"Furry Town" backgrounds

These are a couple of the backgrounds for an animation that my friends and I are a doing called "Furry Town"

I did not name this pic. It was named by the gentelman on the left.
Well this is my first entry in the blogging world, and I would just like to say it's good to be here. For the most part this blog will be to post my art work, but I will also include what's going down in my life. Also maybe I will include soup recipes, instructions on how not to talk to one's elders, life lessons (not for me, but more for you. "the reader"). I will also try my hardest to be as vague about my life as I possibly can. I do not like to give guarantees, but I can assure you that after reading this blog you will be a bit dumber, but don't worry because the dumbness wears off in a few years. So please enjoy and leave a comment if you like. Let me know if you like the art work or if you think its the worst crap ever. Thanks for looking.
